Meet Our Moderator and Panelists ...
Kesha Moore, PhD, is a Senior Researcher and Development Specialist with LDF’s Thurgood Marshall Institute. Prior to joining LDF, Dr. Moore was an Associate Professor at Drew University, where she taught Sociology of Race & Ethnicity, Urban Sociology, Engendering Prisons and Social Movements as well as created numerous campuses-community connections that engaged faculty, students, and community-based organizations in meaningful collaborations for social justice. Her research focused on exploring the role of structural racism in creating and replicating the social problems of mass incarceration, gentrification, and homelessness. Dr. Moore has extensive experience working with marginalized communities in the design of innovative solutions to the problems of racial and economic inequality.
Dr. Johnson is a physician at Maplewood Family Medicine and is on faculty at Overlook Family Medicine. Born and raised in Philadelphia, she is an honors graduate of Ursinus College. She is a board-certified family medicine physician who completed her family medicine residency at Overlook Medical Center, upon graduating from the Howard University College of Medicine. She also earned her doctorate in microbiology at Howard University. Her professional interests include preventive medicine, community medicine, and primary care research. She has served on the community board of Family Promise of Union County since 2016, where she has helped to develop a longitudinal health education curriculum and where she organizes a biannual community health fair. She is actively involved on the Overlook Hospital Community Health committee and regularly performs health screenings in the area. Dr. Lynda Lynn-Wright is the founder of Three Stages Childcare and Learning Center where she has over 25+ years in education, leadership, and business. She founded her first center in September of 1994 and has dedicated her life to activism in making young children a priority and affording them a high-quality early learning education and experience. Her aspirations have always been to close the educational gap amongst children from lower socioeconomic communities and provide equity for all children. Her passion is education and family.
Ore Obiwumi has worked in Democratic electoral policy since 2016. She is currently a Field Manager and Program Associate with Sister District Project and Sister District Action Network. She previously served as Political Director of the Morris County Democratic Committee and has provided management and field support to various campaigns. Ore volunteers as President of the Morris County Young Democrats and Chair of Political Action for the Morris County branch of the NAACP. She holds a Bachelor's degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
Tahesha Way serves as New Jersey’s 34th Secretary of State. Nominated for appointment by Governor Phil Murphy on December 18, 2017, Ms. Way was sworn in on February 26, 2018. As Secretary of State, Ms. Way holds one of the nation’s oldest constitutional offices and leads a department with a diverse portfolio. She serves as New Jersey’s top election official, overseeing the state Division of Elections and its work in securing our democracy and ensuring broad, fair access to the right to vote. Ms. Way also chairs New Jersey’s Complete Count Commission, a 27 member non-partisan commission established to encourage full participation in the 2020 Census. In addition to the critical work protecting what Secretary Way calls the “fraternal twins of democracy,” Ms. Way also oversees the state government offices supporting New Jersey’s vibrant arts, culture, history, and business communities.
